You seem to be making the mistake in thinking if you limit solo play people will pug instead.

Most players will either carry on going solo or just quit.

Even should those players join you, do you really want people who dont actually want to be pugging on your team?

And then going past that further, why is your gameplay experience more important than theirs? Why should they be made to pug just so you have someone to play with?
Yeah...I've just added my two cents, that was all. Not going to throw this topic off track.

Default hero or no hero, thats the ?

yeah, I remeber backin the old days of Diablo, then D2 came out and you could get a hero, set the armor up, get them a cool bow and mod it out, and so on, then GW prof came out. hench, yeah sorta, they are there, but just stupid, and get you killed faster than almost any pup group. then factions, hmmm made hench smarter or so they said, still, hated having to play with them. monks were well suck. and no necro could hold a candle to me so why would i even want to mess with them ? then NF, now this is Diablo 2 re done, Id almost call NF diablo 3. Gwen, even better, a GOOD monk they made out of Ogden, hell the boy WILL heal.

as for the next one, yes they said a companion, lose health and armor buff when you take them, will they be customizable ? set the skills and such ? I hope it is better than the hero set now, or diffrent, so seems more special.

Id like to add, I play NECRO 80% the time. MM is still my favorite, one thing id like to see in GW2 is a mini box, more mini than the pet a ranger has, but just a box that shows the 10 or however many so i dont have to try and target that moving little turd to target it with death nova and such. is a wasted skill for me, is great for a hero, they can in 30 seconds have all my team hit with DN and all the minnions too. I swear they muct have that box. also, for the ranger pet, Id love to see them add 3 skill slots for them, only skills theycan use is BEAST of course, and have the poit set to whatever you have your beast set at. this would free up some space and could make the pet a little more leathal. I mean the ranger have 6 skills sompaired to everyone else, 2 are wasted just to have it. keep it that way but make the damage done by the pet, come from the pet.

my thoughts anyway, off to another pannel hehe

live long, if not, take as many with you as you can.

motto for my necro hehe.

Have fun, Razor of Death out

I fully expect there to be heroes in GW2 and hopefully NO henches because heroes are superiour in every way. I hope we will be able to use full 7 man hero teams if we choose too.

Heroes work.. so why not have them!

Any old school player (Meaning they got the game prior to Wintersday '05) will tell you that pugging the harder missions like Thirsty, THK, and all the Ring of Fire ones was the most fun they had in GW PvE....

It would be nice if they offered a system for Hero Play but left the incentive there to group with others (similar to the party size of 8, but hero limit of 3)

It really depends on how they game is designed. It could be that the entire game can be soloed as a single player, or scale, on the fly as you add in more players.

As quirky as it sounds, I like the company of companions, if real players aren't available. And another question, if real players are available, will they be as friendly and accommodating as heroes?

I don't think heroes will be necessary the way they are in GW1, but more of a luxury in GW2.

I'm hoping I can play my alts as heroes. And A Net can sell me more slots so I can add as many heroes as I like.

First, online game doesn't equal multiplayer game and vice versa.

There are many reasons for enjoying an online game by yourself at times (or even all the time). Mainly, online games are expected to be updated and fixed more often. More developer content is expected in online games than regular games (though regular games benefit from user mods). Importantly, by being an online game, if you ever DO interact with friends or other people, they have done their best to guarantee that you have a 'legit' character that you didn't just hack the save game file with to play. For instance, NWN Vault. Just consider Guild Wars to be NWN with the Character Vault turned on by default. I haven't seen a whole lot of CRPGs that have the playability of many of the online CRPGs (sub or otherwise).

In any case, maybe some people bought Guild Wars to play exactly like a regular CRPG. They may like the graphics, play, story, etc. It's not like they can go and buy the offline version as an alternative and there is no subscription fee.

There are a whole slew of flash and java games that are online only. Online doesn't always equal multiplayer. Online capability doesn't mean you have to use it to play with other people - look at any new console game for that. Many people use the online components to update their games in a timely fashion to provide a better playing experience.

The only thing about Guild Wars that leads one to really believe it should be played with other people is that ANet gave it that stupid name CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). That really only applies to the PvP elements anyway.

EDIT: The largest online rpg in the world recently made changes to make the non-instanced portions of its world (read: most of the game) easier to solo with any class in various ways, including removing elite mobs, dumbing down outside bosses, etc. If they feel that there is enough of a reason or interest to make a change such as that, then there is probably something there. At the least they realized that anti-social people (or people that don't consider others on their level to associate with them as some people may feel) will not keep interest in games where they are forced to be social. It also lessens the chance that those people that do continue to play will grief (purposely or otherwise) those that prefer to play with other people.

If someone is in a bad mood but want to play, instead of telling people in their group they are idiots and pissing them off, they can go off on their own. The problem is there are people (that are against the solo thing) that want ANet to make friends for them because they can't be bothered to do it themselves. I play solo, with people I know, and even pugs depending on my mood.

Besides the concept of an offline or online game is really become outdated anyhow. I think Steam is moving that way and InstantAction is definitely part of the future there. If it's billed as an online multiplayer-only game, then you've got something like Warhawk in that category. If you really want a multiplayer RPG play a real one at a table at a game store or at someone's home. At least when you call someone an asshole there then there are some real consequences.

Don't care if there are either Heroes, or everything in the game is 100% soloable.

But: to try to force players to PUG, that would be horrendously terrible and completely unacceptable.

I'd rather be able to solo, but meh.

Heroes > PUGs.

Yes...PLEASE let us have heroes in GW2. In my aspect/view of PvE, its literal PVP with the odds against you until you make a PERFECT build to solo ONLY that spot. Which really, is a drag. Soloing is OK but really, they'd have to make it for EVERY class to solo. I don't see too many paragon farming builds, which really grinds my engine since my paragon is my pve char ive used the most.

From the GW2 wiki...

Companions are a feature in Guild Wars 2. Companions will have customisability similar to the Heroes of the original Guild Wars game series. Players will be allowed to bring a single companion with them, who will not take up a party slot. When a player chooses not to bring a companion, their character will instead be buffed so that they will not be disadvantaged by not bringing a companion.

No more heroes.

They coul let you take companions depending on your race:

- Norn : For those that like to fight alone.
- Char : They go in packs of 4.
- Human: They go in parties of 5.
- Asura: Krews of 6
- Silvary: They go in triads.

XDDDD

Since so many people like to farm lone, they will probably make solo areas and party areas so you can play both alone and with people. If there are so many bad pug players is because henchmen was making everything for then.

I'd buy several dozen slots, make characters for all of them, and wander Gw2 with an army at my back.
